Imf azimuth was created by Conor
Hi could someone explain what is meant by the following data


IMF AZIMUTH

It can go to eath, dawn, sun, dusk on a chart? What do these repersent

Conor - I've never seen that designation before... Can you put it into context? Where did you see it?

If you check out this page and go down to the IMF seaction the 3rd chart to the right is the imf azimuth. It is now at dusk

Hi Conor - the definition of the IMF Azimuth on the site you posted is:

(Derived) This quantity is the direction of the IMF perpendicular to the geomagnetic axis. This affects the details of solar wind-magnetosphere interactions; however, this is of tertiary importance compared to the IMF magnitude and polar angle. This quantity also depends on IMF components measured by ACE/MAG.

I'm not sure how it can be dawn, dusk etc ....
