Check out the above link. Rod Mollise is the "guru" of SCTs and his site has a pdf documenting the history of the SCT. His guide contains a section on the 2080. Well worth a read.
Clear skies,

Interesting, I haven't heard of one of these in a very long time.
It looks like its a LX3, which is a mid 1980s telescope, great to see its survived to this day, I remember hearing about them back then when they were astronomically more expensive then the scopes of today...
You need to ask him is it a LX3, LX5 or a LX6, I cant tell from the picture as you'd know from the base.
BTW, that finder on the pic is a telrad, it projects a red circle onto a sheet of transparent plastic, and you center the star in it, its not standard equipment on this scope, but its a good easy-use finder all the same.
Heres a page that describes many of the older meade scopes.

Michael,
I just had a quick read through the 100 page read on SCTs, very interesting.
It was fascinating to read on the optical and mechanical excellence/quirks and misfits such as the LX6/compustar/criterions/B&L scopes
Matthew, if that scope is a LX6, avoid it like the plague !!!
