I think they'll be fairly sound Seanie.
Eamon seems to have strss tested them well enough :!:
LEDs are not like bulbs, so there is much less energy involved to get them lit. So that should help things. Also, those Dunnes ones have only 2 leds, which if you run intermittantly, should help the battery life.
And the battery, though a button cell type, seems quite big.
Enjoy .

I wonder though, in freezing temperatures, close to ground level, will the batteries loose their charge as quick, or ecause l.e.d.'s use less power, they will still work that little bit longer?

Eamonn: While Dunnes' ones are for joggers, what is the intended use of the ones you use :

I have been using the cheap packs of 3 for 2 euros each for the last year from our local hardware shop in Boyle.

Paul,
The red LEDs I use are 2 inch dia., only one LED which flashes. They are made by Blackspur hand tools. They come in packs of 3.
They are described as 3 piece Flashing Safety light set, clips to belt, lapel, etc - battery included. Use for jogging, cycling, car, backpack, soccer, skateboard, rollerblades.
Apparently I bought them in our 'Onepound Shop' which sells hardware.
Because they were so cheap, I bought 3 sets of 3 for 6 euros, especially for eventual breakdown spares.

I actually had a look before Christmas in the 2 Dunnes Stores in Tullamore and couldn't find any (forgot to report it back here at the time). Has anyone else (besides Paul Fitz) been able to get them?
