coruscations attending the whole length of the luminosity, giving to the phenomena the aspect of a wrathful messenger, and not that of a tranquil body pursuing a harmless course..comet of 1680

Tonight we have a had a major power cut in Maghera which has caught everyone by suprise on Christmas Eve Eve! It intially went on and off 4 times which was followed by a tremendous green/purple flash low in the west followed by a strange loud sound (4 times) thats difficult to describe. Very eerie sound indeed. There was alot of police activity racing out of town after this. As always i had the camera close to hand and snapped some images to capture this rare power cut...
All images are 15 sec exp at ISO400. Look how dark my location is, normally i can get excellent sky conds from here but it would have been a dream come true if it was like this all the time. Just wish it was clear at the time!
This will be a fond pre - Christmas memory to look back on.

Very strange, maybe it was a transformer overloading or something like that.
Pity there were clouds, it would be nice to see the stars with no light polution at all.

I would love to see a large-scale power outage, just tosee what the sky really is like on a clear night, with no orange glow off in the distance...

No power cut here
maybe many people were preheating their ovens at the same time and overloaded the grid..
