aurora watchers web site was created by johnflannery
just to add that besides the
www.spaceweather.com
website, the one I also check if there's an aurora alert is Aurorawatch UK based at the University of York (I think there're still there).
click on www.dcs.lancs.ac.uk/iono/aurorawatch/
there's a bit of a blip appearing on the current chart. I used this site to monitor the commencement of the major displays last October and November. When the "traffic light" of activity starting going amber then red I got out of Dublin to a dark site toute-de-suite!!!

Interesting site John.
Did you take a look at the section where you can build your own detector?
Should be an interesting project to occupy a weekend.

Thats an interesting little project alright. Parts can be obtained relatively easily through retailers like Maplin Electronics or Peats of Parnell Street... might give it a go myself sometime...

I remember that Stephen. It was in an article by Neil Bone, around the same time he gave a lecture here at Astrofest '93 I think it was... It was a very clever device, and he made it so easy to make and demonstrate!
