Shipping outside the country

Hey all

I am in the market for an illuminated reticle eyepiece, I viewed some Meade eyepieces on sites in the states, I enquired about shipping costs and was informed that they cannot be shipped outside the US on orders of the company. I understood that scopes were not shipped, but I didn't think that this applied to smaller pieces such as eyepieces. It seems that the big players in the field want to make us spend more of our money by buying them in our home market.

In the end I saw that SCSAstro have an Orion reticle that I'll enquire after.

Unless anyone out there has one that they would be willing to sell?

Did you ask the Irish meade dealers to get you a price?

Why not try andromeda optics or north down telescopes?

If you don't get what you want there. I bought mine on e-bay for a song. Think it was €80 for a 12mm illuminated reticle eyepiece.

If Meade,or any other company,establishes a "dealership"in a given country then they will insist that you buy from this "approved dealer" in that country.
Standard practice.

There are EU trade rules that can be used to challenge any such arrangements being applied within the EU and should be. Otherwise consumers on the periphery will continue to pay far more than elsewhere in the Eurozone because of uncompetitive dealer and distributor markups. Unfortunately there's nothing that can be done about it when the source is outside the EU.
