Hi everyone.
Prof. Fred Whipple, he of the 'dirty snowball' theory of comet nuclei,
has passed away at the age of 97. He had worked at the Harvard College
Observatory since 1931 and from 1955 to 1973 directed the Smithsonian
Astrophysical Observatory.
May he rest in peace.

Hi Brian,
sorry to hear about Fred Whipple, he was one of "the greats". I must look out the signed Giotto stamp he sent me some years back, it's quite a treasure now I expect!

May he rest in Peace, you know, i'm envious of him, he lived iin a time which was truly the real 'golden' age of discovery.
