Surplus store around Dublin...? was created by pablod72
Hi:
Does anyone here know any surplus store around Dublin area where to buy optical & electronics supplies and parts? I like to find a place like this one, they sell new and used stuff.

Any information will be apreciated.
Thanks

Unfortunately no. Peats on Parnell St. used to be good when they were in their previous premesis, the component section had just about everything and there was usually plenty of other junk lying around. Maplin is probably the best (only?) place to get components now. And you need to give the staff a list of part numbers from their catalogue to have any chance of getting what you want. CQ communications on Ormond quay is also a pretty interesting place for anything radio related.
Hopefully someone else has better ideas...

Check out
www.SurplusShed.Com
- Ok, they're on the other side of the pond, but they are cheap (in some cases, fantastically so) and they ship fast. They will post a 140 page catalogue on request or you can brows on-line.
Phil.
PS - Beware! You'll end up ordering lots of stuff you don't strictly need... they've just got so many nice toys that it's hard to resist - at least for an ATM like me!
PPS - Check out Edmund Scientific also. Lots of goodies in their catalogues!

I was in Maplin yesterday, really like the place, lots of stuff "I need" in there but so far not optical parts.
One more question, If I buy from surplusshed or another place in the states how much will customs charge? Anyone knows? Thanks

I've ordered stuff up to about $100 without incurring any import duty or VAT. The optical parts (for an interferometer) were all so small that they came in a small jiffy-bag envelope, so I guess they sneeked in under the radar.
