Mars Express was launched on a Soyuz/Fregat. Arianespace will commercially launch Soyuz, cant find anything in their brochure about the Fregat stage.

Anyway the point is that heavy satellites can be commercially launched with Soyuz, Vega or Arianne. So the entire launch can be taken care of by just paying arianespace, 0 development costs.

I haven't quite got the nerve yet to ring them and ask for a quote (+33 160876000 if anyone wants to!)

Cheers,
~Al

Governments are elected by the people.
Trans-national corporations use the people.

To call multinationals "ordinary people" you would need to be already living on the moon.
So no need for transport.

I wonder how much your expensive "designer brand" shoes really cost to make.
The human cost to the paupers who make them in sweatshops.

Peter.

Will NASA take you to Space? NO!

Will Richard Brandson? YES!

I rest my case.

In the context of researching, building, testing, paying staff etc. that money is a pathetic PITTANCE.

You would hardly buy a private jet for that.

Ask Richard Branson.

Peter.

Yes - let's ask Richard Branson precisely how much he intends to make out of taking Space Tourists on his craft. What was it, 100K a pop? Lots of free advertising for Virgin - how much is that worth?

If you think for one second that Branson sees 30 million as anything more than petty cash, then you're mistaken. AFAIK, he is personally a billionaire. If that's so , 30 million is 3% of his current worth. Him receiving 30 million would be no more than me receiving enough money to take the missus out for a nice meal...

Do not underestimate the full worth of this prize. 30 million for sure would only cover a small % of the whole project. But think of the spin-offs for the winner.

Another very recent analogy is the 50,000 prize for designing a craft to go land on Apophis to track it. A UK Co. is giving it a go. Their head honcho said they will give the prize money to charity because if they win, they will be given the multi-million contract to go put those plans into effect.

Once more, wouldn't it be great if that project were extened to land a human on Apophis. Preferably a man. Any takers? Peter?

In the context of lunar travel €30M is indeed a pittance.

It can build about ONE KILOMETRE of Irish motorway.

Mind you,I wouldn't mind having it in my pocket.
I don't think Branson will be giving me much change from €100,000 a trip mind you.

For ORDINARY people?

Rich playboys more like it.

Now,where did I leave that Euro-lottery ticket?

Peter.

Yes, right now at the pioneering tip it costs a fortune. Just like AIR TRAVEL did in the early days. It is Brandson's stated goal to get space travel down to a price where "any carpenter" can go into space.

Honestly, I think you just come out with these rubbish half-arsed non-sense arguments to taunt us all. No one could be that naive.
