I should also include scope widowers in this topic also.

We have all heard of golf widows, the poor unfortuate spouses of those obsessed with the game who rarely see their partners (except on the golf course). This must also apply to spouses (girlfriends/boyfriends) of amateur astronomers.
Has anyone found the secret of softening the blow when one tells ones partner that they will not be home tonight, or are attending a weekend workshop in Galway for example? :)
Is there a perfect excuse? :evil:

I've never come up with one that works. Astronomy is a relatively recent thing in my life but I've also had a lifetime of jobs that included irregular absences, often at short notice. I'm still single...
