I saw the Milky Way a few weeks ago (really truely for the first time). It stretched from the E/NE up and across to the W/SW (or something smilar). I thought it was light pollution from a cul-de-sac street light until i noticed that it went right above my head and down towards the horizon behind me. It was a really bright corridor/beam of light spanning the night sky from one direction to the opposite. I'd never seen it before as such a bright beam of light going from one direction (the one i was observing) to the other.
Quite a sight to behold.

The Saturn V (booster) rocket was the backbone of the Apollo program and the manned space program to the moon.
