Hey All, I hope you had a chance to see Venus and Jupiter in the dawn skies lately, I got up early this morning to a clear sky and headed to a nearby lake with a good east view to get a shot. What a sight to the naked eye :D I could see both planets quite close, even better in binoculars with Jupiter's moons on view as well, probably as close to tranquility as you are ever gonna get! Nature at it's best.

This was definitely worth the loss of some sleep, I hope you all get a chance to view this one, looks clear as well for tomorrow morning. Here's a shot from the digital...Keith.

Conor, 4.30am is very early, they'll just have cleared the horizon in the complete dark, but if you wanna have a go, the darker, the longer the exposure, say 10sec. on a tripod, less time as it gets brighter. The more you zoom in as well you'll get trailing, don't zoom too close if you have a zoom lens, I assume you're not tracking with a scope as you are working, Might you see them at 6? , they're higher up, but you're shots will definitely be better with the oncoming twightlight (sat 2-6 seconds exposure). If you can only shoot at 4.30, set the aperture of the lens wide open if it's a film camera , usually at f2.8, this will capture as much light as possible, but these planets are quite bright & will overexpose if you shoot for too long. Good Luck.

P.S. Bring the binoculars - cool sight :D

No zoom so that not a problem.

MMmmm 6 you say....I might try and sneak out and get a quick few shots then.

What f no. at six 5.6?

I've just packed the Binos into the car. 8)

Last night about 5am I had a number of people telling me about the space station in the south east sky. It was nice to be able to correct them but I was too busy to be able to get out.

Keith,
Thats a great pic, something very serene about it!

Watch out particularily on the 9th and 10th when the cresent moon passes very close by the 2 planets.
Tomorrow morning, the 5th is when Venus and Jupiter will be at their closest, about 34 arcminutes, just more then the diameter of the full moon! you might catch them both at the same time through a telescope. 8)
I'll get up for that, lets hope its clear. :?
