Does anybody here remember "Countdown" comic/magaz was created by blackpig
This was published in the very early 1970s. I was but a child at that time but when this came out space exploration was very much in vogue. Man had just landed on the Moon, Bowie was singing about a Space Oddity and science fiction programmes such as "UFO" and so on were hugely popular.
The first issues of Countdown came with a big poster - it came in two halves with issues 1 and 2. It had pictures of the Saturn V and Soyuz space vehicles along with Northern and Southern hemisphere star maps; it also had views of both sides of the Moon - at least two years before Pink Floyd brought the dark side into popular conscience.

I found this link just now:

God be with the days. I was about 10 and stuff like this turned me on to astronomy.

Space 1999? I remember watching that program - everybody in it had flared trousers which was really cutting edge fashion for the time. Funny the way that when 1999 came around for real flares were back in fashion. I think the Countdown comic had a Space 1999 strip.

Space 1999 - God Yes, used to love it!
The moon had been sent wandering through deep space after Earth had been blown to bits in a nuclear war or something. Full of horribly innacurate science but it was a good story line all the same. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space:_1999
Here we are in 2008 and still not a Moon base in sight (we're only thinking about it in the last few years - depressing).
