Gaelic names for stars/contellations was created by pj30something
Just for fun have a go at translating the Greek or Arabic or even English names for stars and constellations into Gaelic.

Canis Minor = Madra Beag
Canis Major = Madra Mór

Crab Nebula = Nebula an Portáin

Orion's Belt = Crios Orion

Black Hole = Poll Dubh

I checked an online dictionary and there doesn't seem to be any Irish equivalent for words like "galaxy" or "nebula". Perhaps these objects do not exist in the alternative universes occupied by Gaelteacht areas.

Those are Greek words.

There is a rich Celtic vein of star-lore going right back to,and pre-dating, the Greeks.
Interestingly, you will find it under "Astrology", not "Astronomy".
