Sat nav FOR astronomy? was created by Frank Ryan
I've been thinking about getting a Tom Tom or Garmin for
a while now and after seeing Dave Lillis' one I gotta have one!!
The only thing is though,
I've plans one heading to a few countries this year and
was hoping to use it there also to get coordinates etc...
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I dont want to spend a huge pile
My budget is in the 200 Euro range.

Why would anyone in the US want to buy a navigation system that's for Europe? I doubt that there would be sufficient market for it and if I saw a US website making such offerings I would be highly suspicious of it - expecting a scam or a gray market (warranty-less) product.

Sorry guys, as there is seemingly no relevance to astronomy, I'm locking this thread.

Try an online shop or even eBay to get details of what these sat navs have country to country.

Heavens Above will get you coordinates.

Frank,

I am not sure if the Tom Tom or Garmin Sat Nav devices will give you coordinates that would be useful for astronomy.
You might be better off looking for a bluetooth GPS receiver. I have one, it is about the size of a matchbox, it cost me around $60 in the US and is able to give me accurate coordinates via bluetooth on my laptop.
I also use it with Tom Tom on my Nokia N70 for Sat Nav as well
If you are looking for a GPS receiver, may sure to get one based on the Sirf III chipset, these are the fast to "lock on".
Here is a link for the receiver I got
