Darragh that bluetooth GPS receiver looks very interesting.
And would be perfect for what I want in the States.
It says on the website

It communicates with other electronic utilities via Bluetooth

Is it just a case of pairing with it on your phone to get the coordinates?

The sat nav that has mapping on it (for Siberia)
would be essential if we were clouded out and needed to jump into the
car and roll.
I don't care how far we have to drive to get a clear sky,
I just want to make sure we don't wander outside the shadow track!

Hi

This site gives details of how to add GPS to your GOTO scope if you feel you need it. You can either use a traditional sat nav such as tom tom etc or get a dedicated receiver.

I ask with the solar eclipse in Novosibirsk in mind.

Garmin have a list of third party map source developers
www8.garmin.com/cartography/mpc/#

and there is one company retailing maps for Russia.
