Sat Nav Thread was created by Jared Macphester
As the thread has been locked I can not comment there but.......
I would have thought that an accurate/precise measurement of ones location is foundational to astronomy.
Perhaps I am mistaken.
I suppose one can rely on more traditional methods but I thought these things (GPS's) were the way to go. Why there is even one on my Meade now that I think of it!

Sorry guys, as there is seemingly no relevance to astronomy, I'm locking this thread.
Try an online shop or even eBay to get details of what these sat navs have country to country.
Seanie.

The question posed in the original thread seemed to point to the device for a car, not astronomy. Indeed, it might give you coordinates on the ground, but when planning in advance (as Frank was suggesting), the likes of Heavens Above can give you that information. As he was asking about (a non-astronomical) product information over anything else, I locked the thread.

seemingly no relevance to astronomy?
We discuss in depth on this site about everything and
anything to do with PC's

I am looking at getting a piece of equipment that will give me precise
co-ordinates on the fly for an upcoming trip to the States and
Siberia for the eclipse and you're telling me it has no relevance to astronomy?
Maybe I should have made it clearer but I thought it was pretty obvious
what I wanted it (and peoples advice on them ) for.
I have no issues with a mod deleting a thread of mine if its
a total off topic question but this I feel is unwarranted.

I agree. For those of us with GOTO scopes, probably a very large number, GPS and discussions of are very astronomy related.
Darragh if you're still following this I would like your advice on how your bluetooth works - do you need to purchase laptop software also to give you co-ordinates? or do they usually come with basic software for a pc or laptop? I'm not interested in mapping or navigation purely the co-ordinates.
BTW - I've been looking at this one one E-bay.

just curious, but would this thread be ok if it was placed in the General forum? Just want to know, as I can occasionally post messages that have little astronomical merrit and I want to be clear what is acceptable and where.
