Eamonn.
Holy cow!
You poor guy!!
'grinding another mirror as therapy!?'
I'll say!!!
Wasn't there some post here last year about a guy
that ended up 'washing' his OTA in a bath tub!?
That one brought me to tears laughing.
I can't say I ever came close to danger observing
(C'mon.. I'm from Limerick after all!)
But there were some kids to the back of my house that
thought it a good laugh to chuck eggs over the wall at me...
that is however untill the cops pulled up and cought them red handed.
I took great enjoyment watching them clean up my back garden
bieng pulled around by the ear by their dad.

There was a very funny story in “Focal Point†in Sky & Telescope magazine a couple of years ago about an Australian Star Party that went disastrously wrong.
The star party was held on a golf course and the organisers had been assured that the sprinklers were turned off. (They sprinkle even the fairways in dry Australia.)
You’ve guessed it, all the sprinklers popped out of the ground at midnight and started spraying everybody and everything.
Laptops and horrifically expensive RC optics were not spared by the deluge.
Hilariously funny reading about the observers attempts to save themselves and their equipment.
"Schadenfreude" is the only word for it!

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

I mentioned elsewhere about melting the plastic cover of my diagonal onto the diagonal when I removed the solar filter when observing the sun and got distracted before I put on the lens cover.
Melting plastic and glass make a lovely smell.

when i first got my scope I was using it back home on the front street. we have a lawn a few feet lower than the street, with steps leading down to it. I decided that I could block out unwanted light from the neighbours by using the trees on the lawn to block the light.
Being lazy i decided to just carry the mount, scope , weights and gear box in one go. on the way down the steps one of the tripod legs caught in the stonework of the previous step and set me way off balance. luckily it was the 2nd last step and as i fell i let go of the tripod which landed on all 3 legs stuck into the grass. in my effort to prevent the scope falling i landed in a bush.
Il never forget that second of panic when i realized i couldnt help myself from falling and worrying my brand new scope would crash to the ground. I was super lucky that night.
