copying tv shows from ntl recorder to laptop was created by fguihen
Apologies in advance mods for the post thats not so related to astronomy.
Im posting in the hope that someone has already solved the below issue.
I have recorded a number of shows from space week on my NTL version of a sky plus box. i want to get the shows onto my pc so that they can be stored on a dvd for future use. has anyone any experience with this?
im thinking of getting this device, will this allow me to copy the shows onto a laptop?
with such a device id have to play the show in realtime to copy it onto the laptop. id prefer to just copy the show as a file to the laptop, but not have to dismantle my ntl box in the process.

Yea! I wouldnt post it here otherwise!! I fear the wrath of the mods! There were some really great shows on over space week, in particular the ones on the design of the lunar lander, rover, spacesuit and command capsule. Ive also received a request or two here for copies of the shows so really, the post benefits this forum and its users! I admit though such a solution will be used to copy a wide variety of shows!!

I really must think of something interesting to use as a tag line!

It's difficult to say with certainty looking at the picture of the device you are considering buying.
If I were to hazard a guess, I would say "yes".
I only have experience of the Sky box and a DVD recorder but the device you are looking at essentially takes the place of the DVD recorder.
You should connect this device to your NTL box outputs that are the same colour as the lead OR to the SCART output with a suitable interface for the leads. These are cheap to come by.
Start the NTL box playing and start the computer recording the input.
No guarantees from me though.
Hope that helps.
