no no, a bad typo there, I meant "mad customs teams"
meaning only a mad customs team would dismantle an eyepiece to see what's in it, it's made from glass, how could you "not see" inside it.
BTW, here is that CN thread

If I'm reading this right...
If they don't charge the tax on the service then someone somewhere
has made a buck without paying their dues.
To use your work analogy, I can charge both.
I can make or (manufacture) stained glass panels new and I
must charge 21% vat.
If I go out to a church or whatever and
repair one (a service) then I charge 13.5%.
I doesn't matter if the panel is worth a million Euro or one Euro,
I still charge my rate and the gov gets it cut on top of that.
I dunno if that's what your talking about...
sorry,
I'm kicked tired right now...
Must go look out the back to see the ISS passing...
Maybe next time you should get the to air drop in the focuser for you...
probably wouldn't take as long..
:silly:

Must be late Frank
My point was that as it stands, here's what customs charge in VAT:
1. If you purchase a new stained glass window from abroad and it costs less than about 125 quid, you pay 0% VAT
2. If you have your stained glass window repaired abroad, you pay 13.5% VAT irrespective of the cost
I think the price limit should apply to both or neither. i.e. my service cost less than 125 odd quid so I feel aggrieved I have to pay 13.5% tax when someone buying a brand spanking new item gets off scott free...
The focuser was both shipped and returned by air... It took less than 24 hours to get from Santry to New York State - about three days for the return journey. It took about 4 more days for me to get all the documentation for Customs and they've now had that for seven days...
I'll join ye in looking at the ISS

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

WOW, I only started off the thread by saying that American sellers are more reluctant to sell overseas becuase of some new form regulation and we end up talking about stained glass windows.

How 'bout Star Trek:P
I orders the remastered original series from CDWOW and today received a letter from the Customs asking for invoices / item costs etc. with a view to charging duty/VAT etc.
I've never had a DVD stopped before.
Michael.
