Rijksmuseum 'moon rock' gift alleged to be petrified wood was created by mjc
Here's an intriguing story - moon-rock presented to Dutch former prime minister shortly after 1969 moon landing is alleged to be petrified wood.

The mind boggles.
Maybe the Americans weren't the first on the moon - maybe it was the Vikings - obvioulsy when the world was still flat alowing them to sail off the edge...

Looks like some official was given a rock to give to the Dutch, he had a bright idea and kept it himself and gave the Dutch a piece of wood, hilarious.

I am sure said US official would often pull out a rock at family gatherings and tell everyone in hushed tones that this was a moonrock that he was supposed to give to the Dutch Prime Minister and that he had swapped it out with a similar looking terrestrial rock.
Cut to the present day, and one of the now grownup kids gulps when he reads the story because he now knows why uncle bob went ape**** and never talked to him again, just because he flushed the 'fake' moonrock down the toilet as a prank 25 years ago.
Oh don't mind Uncle Bob kids, he's telling his moonrock porky again!

Tis a good read. The fact that the object (photo shown in the article) looks NOTHING like basalt or even sandstone, let alone lunar regolith, should have been obvious!
