ESON - The ESO Outreach Network was created by tombonner
Hi to All,
This is Tom Bonner with the Cork Astronomy Club. 1 or 2 of you may know me.
I am - in cooperation with Staff at the Blackrock Castle Observatory - working as the Ireland ESO Outreach mediator. This basically involves passing on any ESO announcements to relevent and interested groups. These are usually latest results and up to the minute announcements on many of the ESO scientific and astronomy endeavours.
It also involves passing on any Irish activities that may have an ESO link or collaborative connection. This gives those activities Europe and worldwide publicity.
I am interested, as a start to trying to set up a database of contacts, in hearing from any of the Irish amateur clubs and societies that would be interested in receiving mailed links to ESON's latest announcements. This is a great way to be in the know with the latest in cutting edge projects and discoveries.

Tom - thanks for the information. It sounds like it could be very useful to have that conection between ESO and the amateur community here in Ireland.
If there's anything we can do to help, just holler. We'll look forward to working together!

Yes, Dave.
What I need is to build a contacts list so that I can make the latest releases from ESON available almost immediately. The local club secretary seems a good place to start.
Also the facility to put up the URL of the latest release on the IFAS page would be really good. It would begin a link between IFAS and ESON that might facilitate valuable mutual opportunities in the future.
ESON releases occur at regular intervals and contain up to the moment announcements on the many projects in which ESO are involved.
The general link is www.eso.org/
and an example of a recent release is www.iau.org/public_press/news/detail/iau0921/
and
www.eso.org/public/outreach/press-rel/pr-2009/pr-38-09.html
I hope I can develop this initiative in the future as the communications and publicity support is not a one-way event.

Message from sandu.oana@gmail.com:
Dear all,
An announcement that showed up today and that is going online by the end of the day about Communicating Astronomy with the Public 2011 Conference.
It would be great if you could promote this locally to any contacts interested in outreach that you may have, but also to local media.

Best wishes,
Oana
