It is with great sadness that I pass on the news that Bill Dumpleton has passed away in France.
John Flannery asked that I pass on this sad news.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. May he rest in peace.

A true gent, and a valued co-worker when we both worked at Dunsink. We will miss him deeply.

I too am sorry to hear of his passing. I remember when he came to Cosmos '99 and gave us a very interesting talk about observing and the research at Dunsink.
My condolences. May he rest in peace.

Sad news indeed, I remember Bill as a true gentleman, one night in the late eighties I was helping him open up for a public night when he called me outside to view an auroral display that had started. We stood there together watching the aurora before the first of the visitors arrived and once they were all there Bill proceeded to give them an impromptu talk on how auroras are formed.
I believe he suffered a sudden brain haemorrhage.
Bill is to be cremated and laid to rest in France (where he retired).
I have'nt heard anything about any memorial services over here as of yet.
