FYI

Dear Colleagues,

The European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Madrid, ESA’s centre for space science, has just announced its 2010 Trainee Programme.

The ESAC Trainee Project is open to undergraduates in their final few years of their degree and recently-graduated young men and women. Each young scientist participates in a trainee project which contributes to various astronomical satellite projects such as XMM-Newton, ISO, Integral, Gaia and the Virtual Observatory (VO). The duration of each project is between 3 to 6 months. Topics for 2010 include:

• X-raying the gaseous environment of supermassive black holes
• Neutron stars and black holes on the edge
• Gallery of selected galactic supernova remnants
• X-rays vanishing in the interstellar medium
• Parallel 3D models of the flow in the colliding winds of binary systems of hot stars

The complete list of opportunities and an application form can be found on the ESAC Trainee Project website: short.ie/uaha6m

Note: Enterprise Ireland plans to offer scholarships of €2,000 each to a maximum of two Irish students to enable them to participate in the ESAC Trainee Project in 2010. Keep an eye on the Enterprise Ireland Space Education Facebook page for updates: www.facebook.com/spaceeducation

I would be most grateful if you could forward this email to potential candidates. The closing date for applications is February 5th 2010.

Kind regards,

Bryan
