Insurance issues. was created by Dublinskywatch
Hello guys and gals.
I was wondering if anybody could tell me what they do regarding insurance of there equipment.
I am not sure if there is anybody that caters for this hobby or if we apply through our home insurance policy.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated here...
Thanks.
Declan.

Hi Declan
I had my CGE 11 covered by my home insurance which included all risks and breakage. It needs to be declared seperately and normally a receipt faxed into the insurance company. It depends on the value. A CGEM may not warrant this as it does cost a bit of extra money - its up to you.

Thanks for that John.
What about when I go out ..say to a dark location?
Would I need any thing different for cover? Just wondering as I have a Canon 5d mark II camera as well.
When I approached my car insurance about this, they said they couldn't cover it. Fair enough I guess.

Yep, house insurance company is the one to talk to. I have all my more expensive items listed as additional items with them and they are covered against theft or accidential damage, irrespective of whether it happens on my property or not.

Likewise. I have just had my CGE 11 covered on my home contents here in Melbourne which covers accidental breakage anywhere. (Mind you, they wouldn't cover musical instrument outside of the house this time. My two prized possessions are the Scope and my Powell Flute. This was never an issue in Ireland.)
