Ah ! I've just realised what you mean by seems 'seriously high'. You have the telescope and weight axis set vertically. ?
The latitude (53) setting is fixed - never again to be adjusted, unless you move the scope or you move to another part of the globe.
Loosening the RA and DEC tab bolts allows you to roughly set where you want to look in the sky. using the setting DEC and RA . that done, then re-tighten them. Then you use the slow-motion adjustment (RA) to follow an object as the sky(and the object, obviously) appears to move clockwise about the polar star.
You will find that they will give you the full range of high/low and left/right adjustments you need to see the whole sky
The LIDL manual isn't very clear on how to do this, unless you already understand the tech terms it uses, which use is contradictory, if it is a beginner telescope
