Dodgy ad was created by Tonio50
Hi all
Saw this ad on Gumtree and was interested. It appeared a month earlier like this:
www.gumtree.ie/dublin/66/75807866.html
The latest incarnation is this
www.gumtree.ie/p/for-sale/cpc-800-gps-xlt/77527696
All the pictures are skived off Google images and one of them is not even a cpc 800
What do you think?
Tony

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

If you are genuinely interested contact the seller and have a look at the scope, that way you can be sure if it is the same, and see any potential trouble.
The wording of the ad definitely sounds like it was lifted off the Celestron website, the images look okay, but as I say, check it out first.
Make a lower offer, you never know.

Well if your interested then go and see it. Can't hurt to look. Of course if the seller asks for anything up front or there is the slightest suspicion that something is not right, walk away.
Could be the case that the seller bought this and knows nothing about it hence the lifting of the blurb from the celestron web site etc.
Check the optics carefully for any damage turn on the scope and make sure it slews happily.

They actually turned out to be genuine:)
I'm going over there now...they bought it from Astronomy Ireland 3 years ago.
Fair play to AI....they told me to bring it into them and they would check it out and show me how to get the best out of it. I think it's a fair price if it's all in order.
I'll update ye later.
Thanks for the response

Got it....
In great condition apart from a couple of small scratches.
Karl in AI was so helpful on the phone. He told me the software needs updating and to bring it into him on Wednesday morning to bring it all up to date.
Is updating the software difficult...is it something I could do myself?
I can't get over how helpful Karl was.
I'm really excited about this new project:-)
Thanks for all your advice
