Keeping it safe - containment. was created by martinus
I've been considering some kind of storage for my mount-head, weights and everything else that isn't the tripod. So far I've seen large (50 gallon) wheel-able tool-boxes in B&Q - lots of space, relatively light but no way of compartmentalising bits to keep them from rattling around. Maplin sell alu 'flight-cases' with foam inserts, probably big enough to house the mount head, maybe a few weights and the counterweight bar but I don't want to end up with a lot of the things as I pick up more gear. I need something suitable for carting to dark-sky sites as I'm not in a position to have a home observatory.
So gentlemen, I ask you, what kind of container(s) do you use or consider suitable for all of the odd-shaped bits and pieces we collect in our astronomical adventures?

For my HEQ5 mount head I use a fight case from maplin (they had them on offer a few weeks back) it fits perfectly. For my guide scope, guide cam and other bits I use the larger alu flight cases from Maplin and main scope has its own case. I also use a "Really Useful storage box" (84ltr capacity) to house the cases when traveling and a smaller one to carry weights, torches and all other bits.

I think I seen these available in my local dunnes and most hardware stores sell them, they are really good and very strong.

Thanks johnny, I picked up a large flight-case from Maplin - they're doing a special on a few different designs. Hopefully the foam will keep everything intact.
