STOP !!!!
Dont ever use WD40 near any telescope specially Newts as it has an acidic element that can affect the coatings WD40 is not a LUBRICANT its an agressive penetrating fluid,Seanie was right any lube will wear off use silicone gel if yuo want to try a lube.
The easiest system is to get a sheet of 4mm perspex or polycarbonate and drill a series of 10mm holes in a spiral pattern outward from the centre (40 or 50 ) place this on top of your rocker base through bolt, then get 8mm ball bearings place one in each hole fit the top of the rocker on and you have a totally balanced & fluid mechanism, the only proviso is that the insides of the rocker discs have to be covered with melamine (kitchen worktop)veneer or similar, sheet aluminium would also do.
Also be very careful using silicone sealant near mirrors as it off gasses acetic acid.
Martin the mini roller works a treat, hey you'll be using the scope in the dark anyway!!!!

oops,
I was only suggesting a small dab on the teflon, then again I'm not a materials expert.
Next time I'll stick to what I'm certain about.
Eugene been the experianced tradesman you are, I'll take your word on this as gospel.!!

What about rubbing a candle on the pads? Works for sticking doors...

Be careful with ball bearings. Sometimes this can lead to a jerkyness in the axis motion. It can take certain level of effort to barely nudge the scope and suddenly it'll move too far. This can be fustrating as you're trying to follow a target at high magnification. Personally, I'd recommend adding some more teflon first before investing in ball bearings. However, I'm not exactly an expert in dob building either.
