Uranometria Vol 2 was created by lunartic_old
Hi guys

I'm looking for a copy of the above title, I logged onto Amazon, both the US and the UK sites and the prices quoted made me laugh. In the UK it's advertised, used, between £200 and £843.75, in the US it goes from $899 new to $451 to $988.88 used. I mean WTF, :bigshock: Where do they get these prices from?

I'm picking it up new from Astroshop.eu for €70.00 new and I can't imagine anyone would be stupid enough to buy it used, in good condition only for $555 or £843.75.

Still you never know, to quote PT Barnum, "there's a customer born every minute."

There's some extraordinary prices being quoted for astronomy books still in print! Willmann-Bell, the publishers of Uranometria, have just announced they will be selling the two volumes as a combined book -- see www.willbell.com for details.

There was a discussion on Cloudy Nights about why Amazon, etc. quote such stratospheric prices. Apparently it's due to some sort of system used by booksellers to determine demand and the book price can be artificially inflated as a result (can't remember what thread it was, but it's in the Stellar Media forum of Cloudy Nights).

I often use www.bookfinder.com to search across multiple booksellers simultaneously.

Have been in touch with Paul about a copy of Vol. 2 I'm not using.

That single volume edition looks the business and would look great on the book shelf.
