Hi all,
Canadian amateur astronomer Steve Mallia got in touch with Dunsink Observatory last April about visiting on an Open Night and some of us met with him during his visit. I've stayed in touch with Steve since then as he has been in Ireland on subsequent business trips.
Steve is back in Ireland next week and will give a talk in Dunsink Observatory on Wednesday, October 14th at 7:30pm about astronomy in Canada. He is on the Council of the Mississauga Center of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (
mississauga.rasc.ca/
) and also runs an online astronomy store (
www.ontariotelescope.com/
)
All are welcome to Steve's talk and admission if free. This is a great opportunity to forge links with international groups and learn about astronomy done elsewhere. I subscribe to the Canadian magazine SkyNews (
www.skynews.ca/
) and it is a terrific publication with many articles written by familiar names such as David Levy, Gary Seronik, and more. The magazine has just been bought out by the RASC themselves.
If the evening is clear then we plan to use the historic 12-inch Grubb refractor to view some celestial sights.
Hope to see you there!
John
