Leitrim Astronomy Club Star Party BBQ at Kingsland Observatory was created by eansbro
To All Leitrim Astromy Group and Friends,
Star party at Kingsland Observatory; www.kingslandobservatory.com and www.setikingsland.org
We have a date set for our BBQ & Observation and it is this Sunday, July 16 at Kingsland Observatory outside Boyle, Co.Roscommon (see below for directions). We will put out a sign on the R361 road eg. 'LAC BBQ with an arrow).
The details of the Star Party BBQ:
1) Bring your own for everything - food, drinks/minerals, utensils, plastic plates/cups, any condiments, etc. Eamonn will set up a table and have some seating.
2) There will be garbage bags on hand.
3) No kids am afraid for insurance purposes.
4) We will start around 6pm with the BBQ. After that home made film and talk about the largest operational telescope in Ireland. There will be an exhibition of recent research. We will use the other large telescopes to look at the Moon, and Saturn and its rings!!
5) People can bring their own binoculars and telescopes if they like as well.
6) People shouldn't feel a need to wait for the Observation, or anything else, if need to head home.
7) Anyone looking for a Lift from Ballinamore area, I will be at the front of Tesco's at 4.30pm (I'm going early to help set up).
If someone needs a Lift and can't be there at that time, get in touch here.
9) In general, if people tell me if they intend going to the BBQ, maybe let me know here - this is to gauge numbers.

DIRECTIONS TO Kingsland Observatory .
1) Travel to Boyle, from N4 go up through town towards Frenchpark and at T Junction take right R361 to FrenchPark/Castlerea.
2) Stay on that road for 8km until you a come to a long left bend, you will see a sign for L5547 to the right, take that.
3) Travel down it about half mile until you see a Red Barn on the right and Kingsland Observatory is next after that on the right. No house clearly visible as covered around by trees. Place is on the brow on a small incline/hill.
4) If on the R361 and you see the Saddlers Inn you have gone too far, the turn-off is back the road from there.

Hi Eamonn, I wouldn't mind popping along for 6.30 or so, I'd love to see what you do there. Weather is good for tonight, how long is the observing session for?
Keith.
