"Stars, Comets and Mince Pies" was created by Bruno
Once again, to mark the festive season, the Irish Astronomical Society is organising our annual get together for members and our many friends in IFAS Clubs and other astronomy groups. This year the "Stars, Comets and Mince Pies" event will include short 20min fun presentations called:

"Rocket engines and orbital mechanics" by Kevin Fleming,

"Science Buzz" organised by Michael Grehan and his team

"A funny thing happened on the way to the Observatory" by Terry Moseley

Short Break:

Followed by a special Astronomy Table Quiz organised by Patricia Carroll

Venue: Dunsink Observatory, 7:30 pm, Friday 13 December.

Light refreshments will be available including mince pies and plenty of chat before a warm log fire.  We will also have a selection of images from our "Images of Starlight" exhibition on display.  Most of all it will be an great opportunity for like minded people to meet old friends and make new ones and we look forward to seeing you there

Best wishes and clear skies
John Dolan

We all seemed to have a wonderful time at our annual Christmas get - together in Dunsink on Friday night.
So many worked very hard.
I was certainly glad I was present.
Even Seanie Morris showed up.
It was great to see him!

Terry Moseley was utterly brilliant with his most entertaining talk.
Patricia's Quiz was not too testing.
Well done, Patricia!

Kindest regards from Aubrey.

Yes Aubrey,
It was great fun. Terry showed us how the life of a committed astronomer can be tough and funny. Well done to the young science presenters too.  Hard to believe the event is now in its sixth year.  It started in 2014 with a couple of comets in the sky at that time.  I hope Santa brings some clear skies this Christmas.

Very many thanks to all those involved in organising and hosting last night's event. This was my first time attending "Stars, Comets, and Mince Pies", and it won't be my last. There was a warm welcome; interesting and informative talks; tasty treats; a fun table quiz, and great company.

Well done IAS, and clear skies to all,

Darren.

It appears we have a new astronomical term from Seanie.

Astronerd! How cool is that?

Kind regards,

Aubrey.
