Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Hi all
With the current lockdown keeping us away from dark places, I was thinking ahead to when we are capable of travelling once more and I got to thinking about the Wexford coast as an observing spot. The views to the south must be wonderful with nothing but the sea to look out over.
I opened Google maps and inputted Hook Lighthouse. I have been there in the daytime and it gives an idea of the remoteness of the location. There are a few houses back up the pennisula, but we will not be looking in that direction. There is the light itself, of course, but I cannot see this being much of an inconvenience.
There are plenty of parking space available with space to erect telescopes, see here:
www.google.ie/maps/place/Hook+Lighthouse...293683!14m1!1BCgIgAQ
I would dearly like to head in this direction in the springtime or early summer, imagine the Milky Way. It is about a two hour drive, but I believe the rewards will be worth the journey.
Tell me what you think.
Paul

Hi Paul,
Great idea! I'd happily join you and anyone else who decides to go down.
Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long.
All the best,
Darren.

Hi Paul,
Count me in as well. I was down there a few years ago.
Michael.

Great idea Paul! I'd say there will be many of us heading to remote and coastal locations to get views of the night sky.
While on the subject of Wexford, Carne Beach is a great area also. I've been to both Hook head and Carne Beach at night, and both are excellent sites for astrophotography and observing over the ocean. It's quite a drive to Hook, and I think the seas there have been more choppy and the oncoming winds more stranger than at Carne. But that could just bee the luck of the draw on any given night.
