I totally agree with you, Paul.
The Irish weather loves to kill our favourite hobby.
Right now I'm listening to some sublime singing by a renaissance composer called Thomas Weelkes (1576-1623).
But wouldn't it be so sublime to be out under the stars with our scopes or binoculars?
We had clear skies last Tuesday (4th) but I was visiting my brother. I eyeballed a 2 day old Moon though.
Can I take it you cannot do any observing at home, Paul - due to severe light pollution?
Aubrey.

I can, and do, observe from the garden. I have to erect screens to block out the worst of the street lights. There are nights of better seeing, rare though they are, which help. When I don't have to get up for work the next morning, I find after midnight to provide better seeing.
