Slaneyside Astronomers - New Wexford Astronomy Club was created by Dermot
Greetings from the Sunny South-East!!!!!
Just to let you know that the Slaneyside Astronomers, the new Wexford Astronomy Club, has been established and is currently recruiting new members.
We have held two public meetings to date and have a contact list of over fifty interested people. At present, the club is being run by an acting committee of five members. We will be shortly launching our programme of events for 2004, and we plan to hold our first AGM at our February 2004 meeting.
We are starting small in the hope that we can lay the foundations for a permanent and active club in Wexford.
The club will be operating on three levels:
1. Four public lectures each year
2. A monthly observing session
3. An informal monthly gathering of ‘anoraks’ to chat about the latest news, events, equipment etc.
Two of our members are currently constructing a web-site. In the meantime, we can be contacted at wexford_astronomy@yahoo.ie
Alternatively, you can contact our acting Chairperson, Dermot Rafter at
053 28911 or 086 393 6757.

Well done Dermie. Welcome from your old club SDAS.
I would hope that an affiliation to IFAS will follow soon.

hi everyone,
Dermot and the Slaneyside gang formally affiliated to IFAS last September at the WSP -- welcome on board folks! Great to see astronomy thriving in the southeast part of the country with two clubs (BLAS in Waterford is the other) setting out plans for the future.
regards,
John Flannery

Hi Folks
I am hoping to find an old acquantance from my Armagh Planetarium days.
Liam (Lawson?), used to work for a firm 'Metalbox', one time member of (and possibly still is) the IAS and AI.
Retired then moved to Carnsore Point in Wexford and set up a small observatory there.
I holiday with my family in Wexford every August and have promised to look him up on numerous occasions but always got side tracked.
Thanks for any help.
Regards to all.
