IAS Honourable Mention was created by DeirdreKelleghan
The Irish Astronomical Society has achieved an Honourable Mention from The Astronomical League/Sky & Telescope Magazine.
This is for our efforts on May 6th 2006 Astronomy Day.
IAS members, Deirdre Kelleghan, John O’ Neill, Liam Smyth, Patricia Carroll, Val Dunne, John Murphy and Sarah Murphy all took part in this global outreach event.
Astronomy Day is about reaching out and sharing astronomy with people. With our Sun Moon and Stars for Chernobyl event we combined bringing astronomy to people walking by, with raising a few bob for a deserving cause. We were proud to do this and hope to have a bigger astronomy day in 2007 www.astroleague.org/al/astroday/astrofacts.html Perhaps other Irish Clubs would consider linking up and joining in the 2007 effort?
The winner of the Sky & Telescope Astronomy day competition for this year is
The Iranian Astronomical Society, Tehran, IRAN.
