TAS and Byrnes WoW are inviting primary school children from anywhere to take part. The theme for this year will be “Dude, Where’s my Alien?†Coupled with the great prizes on offer from Byrnes WoW and the star appeal of the event, which last year received entries covering 5 counties, is the inclusion of the 12 winners into TAS’s 2007 calendar which will be on sale shortly after the competition. Their 2006 calendar sold copies all over Ireland as many enthusiastic friends of the club bought copies from other nationwide astronomy clubs.
The Rules
Like any competition, ground rules must be laid out. They do not change from last year, and are as follows:
1- Entrants must be attending primary school. This is not restricted to any particular area.
2- Entrants must be within the following age categories: 5+6 yrs, 7+8 yrs, 9+10 yrs, and 11 to 13 yrs.
3- Entries must be on an A4 size sheet of paper (210mm X 297mm).
4- Entries must be completed using pencils, poster paints, crayons, markers, or a combination of each. Stickers and 3D effects (paper-on-paper) are allowed
5- Only 1 entry per person is allowed.
6- A chosen local artist will judge all entries, and their decision is final.
7- Entries must be handed or posted into Byrnes World of Wonder, Cloncollig, Tullamore, if possible no later than Saturday October 14th.
All entries will be displayed in the Byrnes World of Wonder Toy Superstore for everyone to see, with the winning entries to be used in the Tullamore Astronomical Society 2007 Calendar, on sale around Ireland. The big finale will take place in the store on Saturday November 11th.
What you have to do
Brush up your imagination, colour in your ideas on paper, and show us what your Alien could look like, how mischievous they could be, and where they could be hiding! It must be original, and not copied from another alien, but how you come up with the alien is up to you!
For more details, you can check out the TAS website on www.tullamoreastronomy.com , or get in touch with the club Secretary, Seanie Morris, on 087 6825910.

Despite this being essentially a local event last year, we were very surprised that about 360 entries overall came from 5 counties: Offaly, Westmeath, Kildare, Laois, and Galway. So please, pass the word - entries are to be on an A4 size sheet of paper, so they can easily be posted up to us.
Best of luck!

Hi,
I forgot to add that if anyone wuold like some leaflets and A4 posters to distribute, then please give me your postal address and I will send them on.
Or, as an alternative, if you have a printer and would like to help, I can send on the pdf of the same, and you may print as many as you wish to share around.
All the help would be great folks!

Perhap because light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
