Next meeting: 8PM on Monday September 25th 2006 at our NEW VENUE: The Claddagh Hall, Nimmo's Pier, Claddagh Quay, Galway.
Speaker: Dr Andy Shearer, IT Dept, NUI Galway.
"How our understanding of the universe has changed over the past fifteen years since the major space observatories have been in operation".
His research includes Astrophysics: Optical Pulsars - Observations, Data Analysis and Modelling.
Recently Andy Shearer led a group of Astronomers who discovered and measured for the first time, a link between the intensity of optical light and the intensity of radio waves from the Crab Pulsar which rotates 33 times a second. Their work has important implications for our understanding of how these enigmatic objects work.
Weather permitting, we shall be doing some observing after the talk. If you have a telescope, please bring it along!
Admission: €2.00. Newcomers welcome.
