Croford Obervatory reopens at U.C.C. was created by Wallymee
Maybe I missed a post or thread but I discovered in the latest edition of the U.C.C. Graduate that the Crawford Observatory was reopened in U.C.C. on the 22nd June 2006 by the Minister for Education and Science Mary Hanafin TD.

Very nice, I downloaded the presentation and it looks superb. However, I think I'd be very tempted to get out my axe/saw/chainsaw and remove some of that big tree.

I remember when I was at UCC way way back that this building was almost derelict and completely neglected.
It's great that it's now up and working.
Some of the documents on the powerpoint presentation make interesting reading as well, like the transit of Venus as seen from the observatory on the 8th December 1882.
Also interesting to note the price of the whole set up.
Odd though that we didn't hear of it till now.

The precentation material is superb - the pictures priceless - a birds nest inside the mechanics of the mount!
I wonder if its open to the public.

Didn't notice the bird's nest until you pointed it out Dave.
It would seem that it will be open to the public.
I wonder if anybody from the Cork Club knows anything about it.
Next time I'm down home I might call up to have a look.
