TAS Perseids Bar-B-Q & Observing Night - August 14th was created by Seanie_Morris
Tullamore Astronomical Society will host a Barbeque and Observing Night at our Observatory in Tullamore on Saturday night August 14th. This is to coincide with the annual Perseids Meteor Shower, which peak on Thursday August 12th.
Some members will travel to the site to their own observing of the shower on Thursday night.
Details will follow soon on the barbeque. If you are interested in coming on the Saturday night, send an email to the Secretary Sean Morris at tasnewsletter@go.com or PM him here with a contact phone number so he can keep you informed.
As yet, this event is free - you just have to bring your own food! Visitors are invited to camp overnight if they wish. Telescopes will be on view too... FOR FREE!
Clear Skies (I hope!),
Seanie.

Hi all,
as the event is coming closer, I'm just posting a reminder about the TAS events. Also, here is the content of an email circulated to those on the TAS email list.
Hi All,
as most of you know the Perseids Meteor Shower peaks this week. The accompanying article and picture gives you an idea of what the Perseids are all about, and where to look for the main radiant.
Aside from this, Tullamore Astronomical Society will be having an observing session at our Observatory on Thursday night, August 12th. For those who would like to attend, but do not know where to go, drop me an email back and I'll fill you in.
And as a bonus, a Star-B-Q is set for Saturday night at the observatory. It is free, a charcoal barbeque will be provided. But, you must bring your own food! Also bring along any telescopes or binoculars you have. And if you have a tent and would like to camp over, you are more than welcome.
Now, regarding the weather... if it appears on either of the 2 nights in question that it will be a washout, use your own discretion about heading out to the observatory. On Saturday night, if it is raining up until such a time that it will not be practical to have a barbeque, there will not be one. Hopefully, it will not come to that!
Looking forward to seeing you there!
You might also note that Venus is now visible from about 2am every morning as it rises above the eastern horizon about 3 hours before the sun. Its is the only really bright white 'star' you will see!
Clear Skies,
Seanie.
Cheers,
Seanie.
