Hi all
SAC have arranged a talk by the world renowed photographic scientist and astronomer,
Prof. David Malin formerly of AAO, this coming May.
www.davidmalin.com/index.html
This will most likely be his last visit to Ireland, so it will be a great opportunity for amateurs
to meet with him in person and get some books / posters signed etc.
I therefore wish to cordinally invite your members to this talk, admission is free.
His talk, entitled "Capturing Ancient Light", will be a well-illustrated look at astronomical imaging
and what the pictures can show us. Venue is in the University of Limerick, 15th May at 7.30pm sharp
Room FB028, Foundation Building (I.E. Concert Hall Building)
Brief Bio on David
David Malin has been involved in scientific imaging for over 45
years, initially as a microscopist and later photographic scientist
and astronomer with the Anglo-Australian Observatory. David Malin
is a well-known populariser of science, and writes and lectures
widely on astronomical and photographic topics. He has written a
large number of scientific papers and rather more popular articles
on astronomy and photography and is author or co-author of eight
books, the most recent being "Heaven and Earth", (Phaidon, 2002),
where he was science advisor. He is currently commissioning editor
for the scientific imaging section of a new edition of Elsevier's
"Focal Encyclopedia of Photography".
His pictures have been made into a series of exhibitions that have
toured Australia, the UK, USA, Europe, Japan, China and India and
has worked with Australian composers Martin Wesley-Smith and Ross
Edwards on audio-visual productions which combine astronomical
images with modern music. David Malin is Adjunct Professor of
scientific imaging at RMIT University.
Hope you can bring a gang.
Please revert if you can come along.
Best regards
Tony

Folks - go and see this guy. I saw him in Armagh on Saturday and it was superb. Very good presenter and very interesting presentation.
