Patrick Browne NUI Galway
Monday 30th April
Claddagh Hall, Galway City, 8pm
Patrick Browne is a graduate student at the Dept of Mathematics NUI Galway. His talk will show how using basic school level maths gives us the laws that we have used for centuries to determine planetary motion. He will also show how, using Kepler’s laws of motion, we can predict many stellar events like transits of the Sun, close approaches of planets and that the planets do indeed orbit in a flat plane out from the Sun. The talk has very little mathematical content and should be of interest to anyone with an interest in stellar maps, any school student thinking of pursuing a course in Astronomy in third level or any members of the public with a curious mind.
