Hi All,
I mentioned to a number of people that I'd try and arrange mains power at the observing sessions Friday and Saturday night for those with computerised telescopes, but alas, its just to impractical
and frankly too dangerous given the real damp weather receintly.
So its a case of BYOB (bring your own batteries) for all, which includes me.
Lets hope the weather clears up so we get a good look at the sky through the scopes.

Can anybody tell me the status of the Leviathan at Birr castle, I have been watching the telescope getting very shabby over the past 2 years in particular. Has the "Pneumatic problem" or what ever it was !!! that prevented us using the telescope at the WSP been rectified or is this going to be another year that the Earl gets all the glory at the indroduction of the star party, in my opinion "for no good reason"
Well done to the lads from Limerick for organizing this superb event

John,
myself and Mike O'Connell were down there about 5 weeks ago, and it was still busted, and didn't look like it was going to be fixed anytime soon.
Lots of dismay, I'm afraid!

Everyone in Ireland buys Meade, and they all buy them from Lidl.

After all the time, effort, and expense that went into rebuilding the scope itself, it seems a bit ridiculous it's out of action because of the hydraulics. I mean, the Leviathan is a piece of Irish history, it is famous the world over.... And the hydraulics are broken....
Is there even a plan in place to get it fixed? - Someone should raise the issue with the Earl.... after a few pints....
P.S. We could have a whip round down in Birr... I can see it now "The New Leviathan, sponsored by IFAS"
