SDAS observing tonight in new site was created by michael_murphy
Hi All,
Metcheck indicates a bit of clear weather this evening so SDAS will be having an observing session at our new site.
Meet in Enniskerry at 9:30.
If anyone is interested let me know. I'll be texting those on the observing list as well.
Michael.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the text! Where is the new observing site? I'm not sure what time I'll be able to get up there, so directions or a grid-ref or a GoogleEarth/Maps pointer would be great.
Thanks,
Phil.

Hi Phil,
By my 1992 Series 56 discovery map the grid reference is:
O 21 12.
21 is line on left of grid.
12 is line at bottom of grid.
It's next to the second Djouce car park on the old roundwood road.
Phone me if closer to the time if you're going to head out and I will try to direct you.
Michael.

Thanks Michael.
Looking at the site in GoogleMaps tinyurl.com/yq3232 there appears to be a large clearing a little further into the forest. It would be worth checking out the access to this area as it is away from the road and the lights of cars which are a curse!

Hi Phil,
Its looks like you can get access to the site via the main car park.
I think they close the car parks after dark tho'.

That was all felled a couple of (if not more) years ago and still has (well did a couple of months ago) lots of debris. Felled trees, branches etc. On top of that its pretty steep. The path might be usable but the ground is not. And I don't think there is a way to drive down there without the key. The path south west from the car park you have marked is just a forest trail, and a bit of an assault course at that!
Mind you if you follow the forest road to the north it comes out in a car park that has a row of trees in it. This is usually locked but sometimes not. I've observed there a couple of times - It's sheltered from the wind but still has a reasonable view south.
Cheers,
~Albert
