Hi all,

The next TAS public lecture takes place in the Presbyterian Church & Hall, High Street, Tullamore, as follows:

Date & Time: Tuesday Feb 15th @ 8pm
Speaker/Topic: Members and the public
Title: Telescope Night for Beginners
Admission:€2.00 per person

Might you, or someone you know, have received a telescope last Christmas? Have you got questions about how to use it, how to set it up, and how to keep it healthy? What are the best eyepieces, what can you see, or even astrophotography.

Questions like these and more will be answered on the night. It is open to everyone, you are also invited to bring along your telescope.

Just a gentle reminder to those not on the TAS e-mail list, that subscriptions are also now due for 2008 - €30 Single, €50 Family - as soon as possible. You can pay our Treasurer (Denise, or her assistant Martin) tomorrow night if you come along.

Clear SKies,

This was a terrific success for the society tonight. Between 40 to 50 people attended the church/hall. Parents with their kids, adults with new kit, all wanting to learn more. Thanks to those who helped out. We even got a few new members, and almost all there were interested in coming to our next meeting to decide joining, and come out observing with us.

I took some photos which I will post here later.

:)

PICTURES:

Just a few shots from the night itself.

Visitors begin arriving. A couple more arrived after this shot was taken.

TAS member John Lally begins his talk.

Visitors now get the chance to set up there telescopes and talk with TAS members on everything from what they can see, how the scope works, and how to take care of it. Some children brought telescopes they received as presents as far back as Christmas 2005, and either did not know how to use it and so barely taking it out of the box until this night.
