Astro2 Presents "Extra-Solar Planets"

20 years 1 month ago #6233 by Astro2
Extra Solar planets are a fairly recent phenomenon in observational astronomy, with sights only becoming semi-regular in the past couple of years as the quality of instruments increased.

They may hold the key to understanding how our solar system formed, how it may end, as well as being candidates for possible future exploration and sites of interest for those seeking extra-terrestrial life.

Prof. Smith is a reknowned astronomer, currently working as a Reader in Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sussex, and he will discuss how the planets are discovered and how the field is likely to progress in the future.

This talk will take place in John Hume 4, at 7:30pm, next Tuesday, Nov 30th.

Before the talk, our open debates will continue with a session on Nano-technology, something that has been in the spot light over the last few moths. The debate will be introduced and chaired by Paddy Wille That'll start at 6pm, also in JH4.

As usual, a pringles-and-wine reception will follow and hopefully a clear night to go stargazing
