Hi all,

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

The next SDAS lecture will be "Shooting the Planets and Eclipse with Patrick Moore" to be given by Carl O'Beirnes and David Grennan of Astronomy Ireland. The talk will be held in Gonzaga College, Ranelagh, on Thursday, March 6th at 8pm. All welcome on the night.

Astronomy Ireland will have the same lecture on Monday, March 10th at 8pm in the Physics Building, Trinity College Dublin. More details are available from www.astronomy.ie/lecture200803a.html Admission for members of IFAS affilated clubs to this lecture is at a reduced rate of €3.

I met Carl and David today and got a sneak preview of the imaging work the guys are doing. Simply jaw-dropping stuff and amazing to see how in a few mouse clicks they can turn a grainy movie clips of Mars or Jupiter into a stunningly detailed image. More awesome images at www.webtreatz.com/ -- many of us on this forum have already been amazed by the skills of Dave, Carl, Gary, Jed, Eamonn, and the others posting here.

I also saw a few pictures and clips of the guy's trip to Sir Patrick Moore's house in Selsey for the recent total lunar eclipse. Some hilarious moments with Jon Culshaw's impromptu impersonations of Sir Patrick and George Bush!

So, if you can make either lecture on the 6th or the 10th then do come along and be amazed and entertained by two of Ireland's premier astrophotographers.

All the best,

John

John,

Sadly Jed Glover's mum died over the weekend. Her funeral occurs on Thursday in Manchester. Therefore, the SDAS talk on Thursday night will be given by Carl and will be solely on 'Imaging the Solar System'. I have heard Carl give this talk and highly recommend this to anyone interested in shooting high resolution images of our nearer neighbours. The AI joint presentation will happen as planned.

Regards and Clear Skies,

Dave.
