Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Hopefully the first of many Vagelis, best of luck with the weather and here's wishing you success.

It has been tried before Dave. Usually John Flannery ("skynotes") instigated it before. Came close to capturing most on the list if I remember correctly (around Cosmos 2000 I think).

Dave & Seanie,
Clear skies & good success to Cosmos 2008!
Here, last year a mini - Messier Marathon took place at another place in Greece, Mt Taygetos, south of Sparta. It was a small group of 5-6 amateurs.
A guy (EAE member Athanasios Douvris) observed 108 Messier objects, and another (George Koronis) 109!
It was at the end of March, when it gets dark a little earlier, and also the latitude of Mt Taygetos is half a degree lower.
These achievements awakened the interest for the Messier Marathon and people started talking about it. 109 is a record almost imposible to break this year, but what's important is to participate. That's what it is all about.
