Hi all

Michael Murphy, Gordon Nason and I ventured out in Friday to do a spot of stargazing. It wasnt looking promising with hazy clouds seeming to hang around with no movement in prospect. Then amazingly it started to clear and great views of Saturn and some deep sky objects were had. It was fun to figure out that we were (probobly)looking at Rea and Tethis. (I have never actually tried to work out the names of the moons of Saturn)

Just for practice I got this image of the ring nebula. Unfortunately the clouds seemd to come back in force when I was getting the green and blue. But here what I got with almost full moon and intermittant clouds :)

I'll add the site to to google earth but, before I do, does anyone have an opinon as to whether it's a good idea to advertise the fact that we go observing there to county council officals who might then close it off? Maybe I'm being a bit paranoid.

Keith,

Text me you number and I'll add you to the list.

We will be organising other sessions in various locations and I'll try to be a bit more organised about notifying people.

I only got one nights observing in oz :( between the moon and bad weather.

Dave: Great photo given the conditions.

Michael.

Yes, maybe it's better to keep that off the public view, not only from the county council officials, some people may start showing up in an inappropriate way and with no intentions to have an observation session. maybe you can text the coordinates of the place along with the location and time , that way that information will be available only to those in the observing list.
